Keyboard shortcuts
The keys Todowl responds to today, the reference list in Settings, and which shortcuts are still on the roadmap rather than in the app.
Updated:
Todowl is not fully keyboard driven yet, so this article separates the keys that work right now from the ones the app lists as a plan.
What works today
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| / | Opens search, unless the caret is in a text field |
| Esc | Closes the open dialog, panel or popover |
| Enter | Confirms the field you are in, and adds the task you just typed |
| β β | Moves the selection in search results and in menus |
Search is the one worth learning. Pressing / and typing a screen name gets you anywhere in the app in about a second, and it reaches pages, tasks, transactions, income sources and expense categories at the same time. See Search.
The reference list in Settings
Settings has a Shortcuts screen listing a fuller set, grouped by general, task and list, covering things like save, sync, undo, redo, add task, complete task, delete task, edit task, add list and moving between lists.
Read that screen as the intended shortcut map rather than as a description of the app as it stands. Several of those keys are not wired up yet, and the search entry there shows βK while the key that actually opens search in the app today is /.
Shortcuts in the text editor
Inside a task description or a note, the usual editing keys behave as you would expect, including βB or CtrlB for bold and the matching combinations for italic and underline. Markdown style typing works too: begin a line with a dash for a bullet, or with a number and a dot for a numbered list.
In this help centre
The help centre has shortcuts of its own, which are separate from the app:
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| βK or CtrlK | Opens search across every article |
| / | Opens the same search |
| β β | Moves through results |
| Enter | Opens the selected article |
| Esc | Closes search |
