Notifications and sounds
Control browser notifications, the sound when you complete a task, reminder sounds and the default reminder time for new calendar items.
Updated:
Notification settings live in Settings, under Notifications. There are fewer switches than you might expect, because Todowl deliberately does not have a feed to notify you about.
Push notifications
This switch controls whether Todowl posts browser notifications when a reminder is due.
While it is off, the app never asks your browser for notification permission, which is why a fresh install does not throw a permission prompt at you on the first screen. Turn it on and the browser asks; approve it and reminders appear on screen from then on.
Turning it off again stops notifications immediately, without you having to change anything in browser settings.
Remember that this only works while Todowl is open in a tab. Reminders explains why in more detail.
Email notifications
There is a switch for email notifications in settings. Todowl does not currently send routine email about your tasks; email is used for sign-in links and for account matters.
Sound on complete
A short tone when you tick a task off. It is on by default, and it is the one piece of feedback that makes bulk tidying feel like progress.
Reminder sounds are governed by the sound settings rather than by the push notification switch, so it is possible to have an audible reminder with nothing appearing on screen. That combination suits people who want a nudge without a popup.
Default reminder
Under Date and time there is a default reminder for new items. The choices are:
- None
- At the time itself
- 5 minutes before
- 15 minutes before
- 30 minutes before
Setting a default saves a step on every item you schedule. You can still override it per item.
The notifications panel
The bell in the app opens a panel with two tabs, news and activity. It is real, and today it opens empty because there is nothing being pushed into it yet. It is not broken.
Nothing arrives at a fixed hour
Todowl does not send a daily digest, a morning summary or a nightly report, by email or otherwise. The only thing that arrives on a schedule is a reminder you set yourself.
