Deleting your account
How to close a Todowl account today, what to export first, what gets removed, and the difference between signing out and deleting.
Updated:
Account deletion is handled by us on request. There is no self-service delete button in the app yet, and rather than leave a control that does not work, we would rather tell you the route that does.
Before you delete anything
Export your data first. Once the account is gone we cannot recover it, and there is no grace period the way there is with the trash.
Open Settings, go to Backup and restore and export. You get a JSON file with your habits and their logs, and your finance data. See Your data, backup and export for exactly what is in it and what is not.
If your savings goals matter, note them down separately: they live in your browser rather than on the server, so they are not in the export.
Asking for deletion
Open the support chat from the sidebar in the app and ask us to delete the account. Send the request from the account you want closed, so we can be sure it is really you asking.
We normally reply within one business day and confirm once it is done.
What gets removed
Deleting the account removes the account itself and the rows that belong to it: tasks, projects, lists, notes, habits and their logs, calendar events and subscriptions, and the finance tables. Because every table is scoped by user id, removing the user takes its content with it.
Ordinary server backups may retain copies for a short retention window before they age out. Nothing is served from them, and they are not searchable.
Signing out is not deleting
Two different things, easy to confuse:
- Sign out ends the session on that device. Your data is untouched and you can sign back in whenever you like.
- Delete removes the account permanently.
If what you actually want is a break from the app, sign out. Nothing expires while you are away.
A middle option
If you want to stop using Todowl but are not sure you want it gone, archive your projects instead. The archive has no countdown, the sidebar goes quiet, and everything is still there if you come back. See Trash and archive.
