Planning screens in progress
Budget, savings goals, accounts and subscriptions are still being built. Here is exactly what each one does today and whether your entries survive a reload.
Updated:
Four screens in the finance area look finished and behave like normal parts of the app, but do not yet store what you type on the server. We would rather tell you that here than let you find out by losing a month of budgeting.
The short version: transactions, income sources, expense categories and debts are saved. Budget, goals, accounts and subscriptions are not, or not fully.
Budget
The Budget tab lets you build an income plan by source and an expense plan by category, and it totals both and shows what is left over, including an automatic investment share.
What it does not do yet is save. The plan lives in the page while you are on it, and a reload starts from the default plan again. Treat it as a calculator rather than a document for now.
Savings goals
The Goals tab holds savings targets: a name, an icon, a colour, a target amount, an amount already saved, a currency and a target date. It works out what you would need to put aside each month to arrive on time, and shows overall progress across every goal.
Goals are saved, but only in the browser you created them in. They are kept in that browserβs local storage, which means:
- they survive a reload and a restart
- they do not appear on your other devices
- clearing site data for app.todowl.com removes them
- a private or incognito window will not remember them
Accounts
The Accounts tab is designed to hold your cash, cards, savings and crypto balances, each with a name, a type, a currency and a colour, and to total them.
Today it opens on sample accounts and anything you add is not stored. Reloading brings the sample data back.
Subscriptions
Recurring payments moved into the finance settings tab, as a Subscriptions section. It lists services with an amount and a billing cycle, lets you pause, resume or remove each one, and totals the active ones per month.
As with accounts, the list resets on reload.
Marked as coming soon
Three tabs are labelled in the interface itself, so there is no ambiguity: Cash flow, Reports and Investments are not built. The Dashboard, Charts and History views open but show placeholders rather than real graphs.
What to do in the meantime
If you want a number you can trust today, keep it in Transactions. The ledger and the monthly summary are the parts of the finance tracker that are finished, stored on the server and safe to build a habit around.
